Tax Law

Without suitable planning, individuals and businesses can wind up paying more in taxes than they should.  We work diligently our clients and their other advisors to develop the best planning techniques to meet our clients’ present needs and achieve their long-term goals.  We provide numerous tax services for individuals, small businesses, family-owned entities and charitable organizations.  Mr. Gorrin holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University School of Law, the preeminent graduate legal tax program in the nation, underscoring our commitment to provide expert, up-to-date tax advice on a wide array of matters.

We provide numerous tax services for individuals, small businesses, family-owned entities and charitable organizations.  Our practice primarily focuses on tax planning. We employ sophisticated income tax planning and estate planning strategies to preserve and enhance our clients’ wealth for themselves, their immediate family and their descendants.

In addition to personal tax matters, we advise clients on the tax aspects of business formation, operations, redemptions, liquidation and dissolution, sales and purchases of businesses, mergers and other tax-free reorganizations, and business succession.  While much of our work involves the application of federal tax law, we also advise businesses regarding the consequence of state taxes on their operations.

For clients who own closely held family businesses, we use various tools to provide an orderly, tax advantaged succession plan, including shareholders’ agreements, buy-sell agreements, limited liability companies and LLC operating agreements, limited partnerships and LP agreements, grantor retained annuity trusts, installment sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, deferred compensation agreements and phantom stock plans.

Furthermore, we devise and implement estate planning techniques and strategies to help clients minimize estate taxes and make tax-efficient gifts.  Upon an individual’s death we handle estate administration in New Jersey, preparing and filing federal estate tax returns and state estate and inheritance tax returns, and carry out postmortem tax planning, such as preparing and filing disclaimers where suitable and making appropriate federal and state tax elections.

Moreover, we represent clients before the Internal Revenue Service, New Jersey Division of Taxation and federal and state courts involving civil tax disputes.
